The Name - Dangerous Times

I am finally back. Last night I found The Name on CD. I actually just got the Vinyl this month too. So this video is worth posting. Great band and one of the best songs ever. Have a Happy New Year and I hope 2010 will be better than 2009 and that we all won't be living in "Dangerous Times".

Alphaville - Dance With Me

I just saw some guy named Mr Hudson (featuring Jay-Z) did a cover of Alphaville's classic hit "Forever Young" which is just horrible. I wish people would leave great songs from the 80's alone. So it made me want to post another great song by Alphaville. So many people just know them for the one song. Such a great band!

Peter Godwin - Images of Heaven

I finally found some Peter Godwin on Vinyl tonight. I've only heard this song from a New Wave comp so I am looking forward to hearing the rest of his album. I sampled some of it and sounded great.

Icehouse - Cross The Border

Played this last night at my DJ gig. Love this song and band. Just ignore the mullet. He has amazing vocals. This band had one hit in the US with some song they wrote with Hall from Hall & Oates but its not my favorite song. I love the album "Measure for Measure", my favorite album by them. I've always thought Iva Davies wanted to be a little like Michael Hutchence. Icehouse is an Aussie band. Iva was never that sexy but his voice is. He does kind of look like Tim from INXS though. I imagine Iva hates being compared to INXS. However, you can't help it...

The Snake Corps - Look East For Eden

I was wanting to post "In Flux" but they didn't make a video for it and I saw this and thought well this is a great song too. Another band under the radar from London. They really made some great dark gloomy music.

Modern Eon - Euthenics

One of my favorite songs I've come across this year. I shockingly just found their vinyl the other day. A very rare find. They're from Liverpool and they were not hugely popular. A great Darkwave band.

Chalk Circle - April Fool

Another band I came across this year. I think I found them on YouTube. I think this band was more popular in their home country, Canada. It's too bad they didn't have success in the US. This isn't their only good song. Through out the year I've played 3 or 4 others at my DJ gigs. They are worth picking up a Best of CD, which I think can only be found on Amazon.

The Venetians - So Much For Love

One of my favorite songs I discovered this year. One of those records you found at a store and just thought "hm lets check this out". I played them in a special set I did of nothing but Australian bands. Such a great song. They did two videos. One for the US and Australia.

Ficition Factory - Feels Like Heaevn

Picked this up on Vinyl today, "Throw The Warped Wheel Out". They were mainly a one hit wonder with "Feels Like Heaven". This is a great song. It came with a 2nd record. Very cool album cover as well.

R.I.P. Bruce Allen of The Suburbs

Bruce actually passed away on my Birthday, Dec 7th, 2009. Only 54. He was the guitar player for The Suburbs. I was able to pick up a couple of their records today that I wanted to get and had to get since I found out about Bruce's passing.

Illustrated Man - Just Enough

I just found this on Vinyl. Here is the band history from Wikipedia.

Illustrated Man (circa 1984) were a funk-rock band featuring Hugo Burnham (ex-Gang of Four), Roger Mason (keyboards), Rob Dean (ex-Japan guitarist) and Australian singer/bassist Philip Foxman.

They had hits with songs such as ‘Head over Heels’ ‘Just Enough’ and ‘Fall from Grace’ and their sound was likened to UK bands such as Japan, Simple Minds and Duran Duran - they are also believed to have influenced Inxs.

Consisting of some excellent musicians with a successful track record, the band was initially hailed as a supergroup – Roger Mason had recorded and toured internationally with artists such as Gary Numan, Rob Dean had been an integral part of Japan and Hugo Burnham had been part of the highly influential Gang of Four (Jon King, Dave Allen, Hugo Burnham and Andy Gill).

Regarded as an excellent live band they were thought to be the next big thing but their success was relatively short-lived.

The Nails - Let It All Hang Out

It's a cold day. So Let it all hang out. Seems like people are only familiar with "88 Lines About 44 Women" so here is a different one for a change. I just finally found two records by them and their other songs are great. Some songs are kind of dark.

INXS - Don't Change - Oz for Africa

Classic Live Aid concert. I haven't seen this in a while. INXS was the best live band. And for those who haven't heard the rest of the original members are playing a show for the Winter Olympics and then announcing a new world tour with various different singers.

The Other Ones - Holiday

To get you in a 'Holiday' mood. The Other Ones were based out of Berlin but they are all Australians. Released on Virgin Records in 1987.
